Accessibility as a Design Practice

A large outdoor banner poster for AXIS Dance Company's 30th Anniversary, three disabled dancers in motion are reflected in colorful chevron shapes behind them.

For AXIS Dance Company, I helped translate a bold anniversary rebrand into a cohesive and accessible experience across digital, print, social media, events, and merchandise. As a company founded by queer disabled women and internationally recognized for disability artistry, accessibility was not a feature — it was a foundational design principle. Working across websites, email communications, social content, and print materials, I focused on making information easier to navigate and understand while maintaining a vibrant visual identity. This included developing accessible design standards, creating brand guidelines, improving content hierarchy, and ensuring materials could be experienced by audiences with a wide range of access needs. The work reinforced my belief that accessibility and usability are inseparable from good design. By balancing clarity, inclusion, and visual storytelling, I helped create experiences that better reflected AXIS's values while making it easier for audiences to engage with performances, educational programs, and community initiatives.
